The name:

This little dinosaur was named after a school girl called Leaellyn Rich. Her mother and father were the scientists who found the bones of this dinosaur in 1989.

Size

Lleaellynasaura was a little dinosaur. Its body was probably not much bigger  than a chicken. Of course, the dinosaur was longer  because it had a tail. Like a chicken, Leaellynasaura walked on two  legs.

Where

The bones were found in a little bay called Dinosaur Cove. It is on the south coast of Victoria.

Eyesight

This dinosaur lived in a very cold and dark place. When Leaellynasaura lived 106 million years ago (MYA), Victoria was much closer to Antarctica and so it would have been much colder than it is today.

By looking at the skull of Leaellynasaura, Dr Rich found that the dinosaur must have had large eyes. It could probably see well in the cold, dark winter months. It might even have been nocturnal.

Food

Leaellynasaura would have been a herbivore, a plant eating dinosaur.
