According to the myths of ancient Egypt, Re was a god. He was the most powerful of all the gods of Egypt.

At the beginning of time, there was darkness. Alone in the darkness was Re.

Re had the power to name something and the thing that he named became real. "I am the sun," said Re, and there was light as the sun appeared in the sky.

Then Re named Shu and the wind started to blow for the first time. He named Tefnut and the first rain fell. Re kept naming things and animals and plants. Finally, he named people and the first men and women appeared in Egypt.

Re called himself Pharaoh and he became the first king. After many years, Re became old and stopped being the Pharaoh. The people still looked at the sun each day and knew it was Re.
