Thor                     Thor was the god of thunder. The Vikings saw him as the strongest
and  most popular god. His favourite weapon was his mighty hammer
                             which was called Mjolnir.

Frey                    Frey was an important god to farmers. He made the sun shine and the
rain  fall so that the farmers could grow food crops.

Balder                Balder was a very handsome Viking god.  He was the son of Odin.
When he was killed by Hodur, the world lost its beauty and became a
                           worse place to live.

Loki                   Loki was actually only a half god. He was also half spirit. He was very
troublesome and often caused trouble with the other gods.

Odin                   Odin was a very important god to the Vikings because he was the god
of war. His eight legged horse was strong, fast and so fit that it never
                           grew tired.

Freya                The goddess of love and beauty was Freya.  She was also the goddess of
marriage and spring. The sign for Freya was a hawk. She drove a
magnificent chariot which was pulled by two white cats.

Hel                 Hell was named after Hel. She was the daughter of the Loki. Hel was very
pale and ghostly. Odin sent Hel to look after the dead people.
