Sydney is the capital city of the state of New South Wales.

Two famous landmarks in Sydney are the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House. These are near the centre of the city on the famous Sydney Harbour, one of the finest harbours in the world.

To the west of Sydney are the Blue Mountains which form part of the Great Dividing Range. This mountain range divides the state's river into two groups. Rivers on the eastern side flow into the Pacific Ocean. Rivers on the western side of the mountains flow west and become part of the huge Murray-Darling River system.
