The Bilby

The bilby is also known as a rabbit eared bandicoot. It was once common but is now found in only a few areas of Australia. feral cats and foxes have killed many      bilbies. The Tanami Desert is one area where feral cats have affected the number of bilbies.

Bilbies have strong, paws and claws so that they can dig easily. They are excellent diggers and often make       burrows that are two metres deep. During the heat of the day, bilbies stay protected in their burrow and they come out at night to feed on insects, seeds and  fruit.
