The Range of Bilbies Once, bilbies were found across most of Australia, from the deserts to the woodland and the forests. The only place they were not found was in the far tropical north. With the coming of European people, cats and foxes, bilbies became far less common. By 1980, there were not many sightings of wild bilbies, and most of those were in the Tanami Desert. The map below shows where bilbies have been sighted after 1980. Fortunately for the bilby, zoos and conservation parks are protecting and breeding bilbies. |
